Attitudes toward typical and ideal old age was investigated with 78 undergraduates. Half responded to semantic differentials for typical and ideal old age and half to middle age. Old and middle age objects were rated alike at ideal but old was rated less autonomous and instrumental at typical. (Author)

The Wickens "release from proactive inhibition" task involves presenting several trigrams of one type for several trials and then shifting to another type. College students, elderly community residents, and elderly rest-home residents were compared on the Wickens task. College students were superior in over-all memory. (Author)

This study correlated Templer's Death Anxiety Scale among 65 college students with their attitudes and behaviors toward the elderly. There was no evidence for the anxiety-denial hypothesis that fear of aging and death results in repression of ideas associated with aging and with rejection of the elderly. (Author)

Hulicka, Irene M.; Wheeler, Douglas – Educational Gerontology, 1976
Subjects, 24 old and 24 young people, were given one learning trial on paired associate lists under four temporal conditions. Recall scores of elderly subjects but not young subjects improved significantly as a function of the registration interval. Results suggest with advanced age more time is required for information processing. (Author)
