Perceived Penal Sanction and Self-Reported Criminality: A Neglected Approach to Deterrence Research.
Waldo, Gordon P.; Chiricos, Theodore G. – 1971
Interviews with 321 university students were used to determine relationships between admitted marijuana use and theft and perceptions of the severity and certainty of punishment. Griffin, Brenda S.; Griffin, Charles T. – Drug Forum: The Journal of Human Issues, 1978
Research using the differential association theory has traditionally focused on a broad general conception of delinquent or criminal behavior. This research, however, examines Sutherland's theory as it applies to drug use as a specific delinquency type. Two distinct differential association processes are proposed to explain the genesis of drug…

Hogan, Robert; And Others – J Consult Clin Psychol, 1970
Data from the California Psychological Inventory suggested that users were socially poised, open to experience, and concerned with the feelings of others. Conversely, they also seemed impulsive, pleasure seeking, and rebellious. Nonusers were responsible and rule abiding; however, they also tended to be inflexible, conventional, and narrow in…

Chipman, Donald A., II; Parker, Clyde A. – Journal of College Student Personnel, 1972
Regular users of marijuana were not found to be significantly different from the other user groups except with respect to proportions of group members using stronger drugs. The distinctiveness of the regular user group and the non-user group suggests that those who do not use marijuana and stronger illicit drugs have been able to find…

Harris, Eileen M. – Journal of School Health, 1971

Forsyth, R.; Sadava, S. W. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1977
Four measures of college student drug use are investigated: frequency of cannabis use, time as a user, range of polydrug experimentation and self-reported adverse consequences of use. Implications for measurement development and for a multidimensional concept of drug use are discussed. (Author/JKS)

Anker, Jeffrey L.; And Others – Journal of the American College Health Association, 1971
A survey was undertaken to determine current patterns of drug usage and related patterns of behavior among college and graduate students. The study drew a…

Examined female college students' (N=466) drug use, marihuana use in particular. Results indicated that the gap in marihuana usage patterns between females and males has substantially narrowed. Toohey, J. V.; And Others – Journal of Drug Education, 1982
Identified college students' (N=139) self-reported reasons for using or not using marijuana. Compared these patterns with value frameworks from which drug decisions are made. Findings are varied and suggest that specificity is needed in drug education, with emphasis on diminishing the "Therapeutic Drug Ethic" values system. (Author/RC)
