Novak, Matija; Joy, Mike; Kermek, Dragutin – ACM Transactions on Computing Education, 2019
Teachers deal with plagiarism on a regular basis, so they try to prevent and detect plagiarism, a task that is complicated by the large size of some classes. Students who cheat often try to hide their plagiarism (obfuscate), and many different similarity detection engines (often called plagiarism detection tools) have been built to help teachers.…

Mendoza, Derling Jose; Mendoza, Derling Isaac – International Electronic Journal of Mathematics Education, 2018
The main objective of the research is to analyze the cognitive attributes offered by Information and Communication Technologies to promote mathematical software as a model of teaching and learning. In the study, the software was used as a motivating didactic resource for the construction of meaningful learning. One hundred students of the first…

Tawafak, Ragad M.; Alfarsi, Ghaliya; Jabbar, Jasiya – Contemporary Educational Technology, 2021
With restrictions on face-to-face clinical consultations within the COVID-19 pandemic and the challenges faced by healthcare systems in delivering patient care, alternative information technologies like telemedicine and smartphones play a crucial role. A wide variety of smartphone applications employs high-tech mathematical and programming…

Liu, Xin; Xu, Chan; Ouyang, Boyu – International Journal of Distance Education Technologies, 2015
Nowadays, computer programming is getting more necessary in the course of program design in college education. However, the trick of plagiarizing plus a little modification exists among some students' home works. It's not easy for teachers to judge if there's plagiarizing in source code or not. Traditional detection algorithms cannot fit this…

Ghilay, Yaron – Journal of Educational Technology, 2018
The aim of the study was to examine the effectiveness of a model called Video-Based Learning (VBL). VBL is designed to improve the learning of higher education courses, especially those based on activities performed on a computer screen, or learning related to the understanding of visual objects, such as formulas, equations, diagrams, etc. The…

Fischer, Carol M.; Hoffman, Michael S.; Casey, Nancy C.; Cox, Maureen P. – Journal of Learning in Higher Education, 2015
Colleagues from information technology and three academic departments collaborated on an instructional technology initiative to employ student response systems in classes in mathematics, accounting and education. The instructors assessed the viability of using software-based systems to enable students to use their own devices (cell phones,…

Velazquez-Iturbide, J. A.; Debdi, O.; Esteban-Sanchez, N.; Pizarro, C. – IEEE Transactions on Learning Technologies, 2013
Several years ago we presented an experimental, discovery-learning approach to the active learning of greedy algorithms. This paper presents GreedEx, a visualization tool developed to support this didactic method. The paper states the design goals of GreedEx, makes explicit the major design decisions adopted, and describes its main characteristics…

Wang, Yanqing; Chen, Min; Liang, Yaowen; Jiang, Yu – International Association for Development of the Information Society, 2013
Lots of researches have showed that plagiarism becomes a severe problem in higher education around the world, especially in programming learning for its essence. Therefore, an effective strategy for plagiarism surveillance in program learning is much essential. Some literature focus on code similarity algorithm and the related tools can help to…

Al-Darwish, Nasir – Acta Didactica Napocensia, 2012
We describe a procedure that utilizes symmetric curves for building artistic tiles. One particular curve was found to mesh nicely with hundreds other curves, resulting in eye-catching tiling designs. The results of our work serve as a good example of using ideas from 2-D graphics and algorithms in a practical web-based application.

Erhardt, Robert J.; Shuman, Michael P. – Journal of Statistics Education, 2015
At Wake Forest University, a student who is blind enrolled in a second course in statistics. The course covered simple and multiple regression, model diagnostics, model selection, data visualization, and elementary logistic regression. These topics required that the student both interpret and produce three sets of materials: mathematical writing,…

Valliant, Richard; Dever, Jill A.; Kreuter, Frauke – Springer, 2013
Survey sampling is fundamentally an applied field. The goal in this book is to put an array of tools at the fingertips of practitioners by explaining approaches long used by survey statisticians, illustrating how existing software can be used to solve survey problems, and developing some specialized software where needed. This book serves at least…

Lambic, Dragan – Teaching Mathematics and Its Applications: An International Journal of the IMA, 2011
One of the biggest problems in teaching Mathematics is the motivation of students (Kloosterman, 1997; Lambic, 2008). The core of this problem is insufficient comprehension of reasons by students, why they want to learn Mathematics and in which way they could apply acquired knowledge of Mathematics (Southwell, 1994; Musto, 2008). Since programming…

Bennedsen, Jens; Schulte, Carsten – ACM Transactions on Computing Education, 2010
This article reports on an experiment undertaken in order to evaluate the effect of a program visualization tool for helping students to better understand the dynamics of object-oriented programs. The concrete tool used was BlueJ's debugger and object inspector. The study was done as a control-group experiment in an introductory programming…

Fest, Andreas – Acta Didactica Napocensia, 2010
Feedback is an important component of interactive learning software. A conclusion from cognitive learning theory is that good software must give the learner more information about what he did. Following the ideas of constructivist learning theory the user should be in control of both the time and the level of feedback he receives. At the same time…
