Woodall, W. Gill; Folger, Joseph P. – Communication Monographs, 1981
Reports two studies demonstrating the ability of nonverbal contextual cues to act as retrieval mechanisms for co-occurring language. Suggests that visual contextual cues, such as speech primacy and motor primacy gestures, can access linguistic target information. Motor primacy cues are shown to act as stronger retrieval cues. (JMF)

Broome, Benjamin J. – 1981
While attraction research has repeatedly shown a strong similarity/attraction relationship between perceivers and others, it has not shown that perceivers are repulsed by dissimilar others--only that they seem to withhold judgment and wait for more information about the other before indicating either attraction or dislike. A study investigated the…

Miller, Gerald R.; And Others – Human Communication Research, 1983

O'Hair, Henry D.; And Others – Human Communication Research, 1981
Investigated cue leakage during deception. Demonstrated that during a prepared lie (one that is rehearsed or mentally prepared), liars exhibited shorter response latencies and message durations, less smiling, more affirmative nodding and body adaptors than truth tellers did. During a spontaneous lie, liars exhibited more body adapters than truth…

Michelini, Ronald L.; And Others – 1980
The effects of crowding and sex on reactions to a side-to-side invasion of personal space were examined. Hufman, Melody; Barbour, Alton – 1985
Since attraction and close proxemic distances have been found to be associated throughout the study of nonverbal communication, a study was conducted that hypothesized that attraction would be a more important predictor of seat selection than any other variables. Subjects included students enrolled in introductory speech communication classes who…
