Legislation lowering the legal age of majority and decisions of U. S. courts in recent cases involving student residency are having reverberating effects upon postsecondary education throughout the nation. This document reviews the policies and means of Southern institutions for dealing with the admission of nonresident students and calls attention to reciprocity arrangements and other forms of cooperation that can lead to greater sharing of regional resources, greater cost efficiency and improved access to educational programs.
