Kurnaz, Ahmet; Meriç, Ayse Göksen; Pürsün, Tugba – International Journal of Progressive Education, 2022
The purpose of this study was to examine the primary and secondary color preferences of students with special needs as well as their color preference for an object regarding their disability types, school levels, and gender. The study employed a survey research design with quantitative methodology. It was conducted with the participation of 549…

Yousef Dehghani; Faride Sadat Hoseini; Fateme Jamshidi – International Journal of Disability, Development and Education, 2024
The present study aimed to investigate the effects of the EASY Minds program on working memory and selective attention of a group of Iranian students with maths learning disabilities. The study had a quasi-experimental research design with pre-test, post-test, and follow-up tests. Forty students with maths learning disabilities were randomly…

Ewoldt, Kathy B.; Morgan, Joseph John – TEACHING Exceptional Children, 2017
A commonly used method for supporting the writing of students with learning disabilities (LD), graphic organizers have been shown to effectively support instruction for students with LD in a variety of content areas (Dexter & Hughes, 2011). Students with LD often struggle with the process of developing their ideas into organized sentences; the…

Maule, Louise; Featonby, David – Physics Education, 2016
1 in 12 males suffer from some form of colour vision deficiency (CVD) which in the present colour dominated world of education presentation can be a severe disadvantage. Although aware of "colourblindness" most teachers make little or no adjustment for these pupils for whom tasks may be more difficult. This article examines colour vision…

Hettiarachchi, Shyamani – Journal of Intellectual Disabilities, 2016
Background: Children diagnosed with intellectual difficulties experience difficulties with narrative skills, due to limited syntactic knowledge. The Colourful Semantics approach with thematic roles and a colour coding system may encourage syntactic development in children experiencing intellectual disabilities. Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness…

Fernández-Alcántara, Manuel; Correa-Delgado, Cayetana; Muñoz, Ángela; Salvatierra, María Teresa; Fuentes-Hélices, Tadeo; Laynez-Rubio, Carolina – International Journal of Disability, Development and Education, 2017
The present study describes experiences associated with parenting children diagnosed with learning disabilities. Parents whose children were diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, dyslexia/language problems, and Asperger syndrome, related to poor performance at school, took part in the study. A qualitative study design was…

Adams, Nena C.; Jarrold, Christopher – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 2012
Resistance to distractor inhibition tasks have previously revealed impairments in children with autism. However, on the classic Stroop task and other prepotent response tasks, children with autism show intact inhibition. These data may reflect a distinction between prepotent response and resistance to distractor inhibition. The current study…

Skagerlund, Kenny; Träff, Ulf – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 2016
This study investigated if developmental dyscalculia (DD) in children with different profiles of mathematical deficits has the same or different cognitive origins. The defective approximate number system hypothesis and the access deficit hypothesis were tested using two different groups of children with DD (11-13 years old): a group with…

Mussolin, Christophe; De Volder, Anne; Grandin, Cecile; Schlogel, Xavier; Nassogne, Marie-Cecile; Noel, Marie-Pascale – Journal of Cognitive Neuroscience, 2010
Developmental dyscalculia (DD) is a deficit in number processing and arithmetic that affects 3-6% of schoolchildren. The goal of the present study was to analyze cerebral bases of DD related to symbolic number processing. Children with DD aged 9-11 years and matched children with no learning disability history were investigated using fMRI. The two…

Kercood, Suneeta; Grskovic, Janice A. – Education and Treatment of Children, 2009
This study evaluated the effects of color highlighting during a math computation task on performance accuracy and behavior of students with attention problems. Using a multiple baseline across participants design, three students solved math computation problems on worksheets with and without highlighting. Off-task behavior recorded from videotape…

Doyle, William – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1982
The study investigated the effectiveness of the color coding technique in remediating the reversals of p, b, and d for 23 upper elementary school children with reversal problems. Using color coded letters as cues in words was less effective than simply practicing the same words without color coded cues. (Author)

Jaffe, Joseph; And Others – Journal of Communication Disorders, 1985
A rapid naming test was administered to 321 prereaders (five-seven years old). Results showed sex differences in degree of correlation between naming performance and a test of general intelligence. Results bear theoretically on the degree to which a learning disability can appear as an isolated deficit in the two sexes. (Author/CL)

Rutherford, Robert B., Jr.; And Others – Perceptual and Motor Skills, 1979
Findings indicated that, in general, seeing a training film in color did not enhance performance; in fact it appeared to have inhibited it. (Author/DLS)

Van Houten, Ron; Rolider, Ahmos – Education and Treatment of Children, 1990
This study asked whether a mediated transfer procedure could facilitate acquisition of labeling tasks in learning-disabled students. In two experiments three young boys learned multiplication facts and number labeling within days following introduction of a color mediation procedure. (Author/PB)
