Responses to a study indicate that educational purchasing agents feel that they are performing relatively important functions within the institutional organization. The primary role of the purchasing agent, regardless of organizational structure, vertical or horizontal interaction, bureaucracy and personalities involved, is to enhance the educational efforts of the academic community.
