Subjects (N=18) were treated for social nonassertion, nine in a behavioral rehearsal group and nine in an eclectic nonrehearsal group. Comparisons were made based on physiological, behavioral, and self-report measures. Both treatment groups displayed statistically significant increases in assertive behaviors. (Author)

Differential responding for males and females on individual items from the Adult Self Expression Scale was investigated using four samples. Men report themselves as more assertive in dealing with bosses and supervisors. Women report themselves as more assertive in expressing love, affection, compliments, and anger to one's parents.
