Incidence of premarital pregnancies among brides marrying in 1970-1972 in Australia is analyzed with respect to relative ages of bride and bridegroom, bridegroom's occupation, and bride's country of birth. Relative frequency of such pregnancies was very high among very young couples but declined with increasing age. (Author)

Interviews conducted in 1970 and 1971 with women university students (N=36) and women registered with the state department of employment (N=44) indicated that compared to married women, single women who did not have direct experience in the traditional female role held opinions which tended to idealize that role orientation. Cluster analysis was used to compare the leisure activities of 218 Scottish young adults with and without mild mental retardation. Results showed that for both sexes some proportion of both groups were in each cluster, but the proportions varied widely. Leisure patterns were strongly influenced by gender and marital status. Interviews with 634 Hispanics living in California's San Francisco Bay Area provided data on their drinking patterns by sex, age, income, education, marital status, occupation, and religion. Results confirmed previous findings that indicate that Hispanics have a higher rate of heavy drinking and alcohol problems than other ethnic groups. (NQA)

Implications of cohabitation for courtship were explored in a two-year study of 231 college dating couples. No differences were found between living together and other "going together" couples in rates of marriage or breakup.
