Teacher ratings on the Behavior Problem Checklist of adolescents who were clinically diagnosed as schizophrenic (psychotic) and those who had an adjustment reaction of adolescence (nonpsychotic) were compared. The schizophrenics tended to be rated as more deviant on both the flag items and Inadequacy-Immaturity dimensions of the checklist. (Author)

This study suggests that teachers and mental hygienists continue to hold differing attitudes toward student behaviors and their effects on mental health. It is likely that differential training and role expectations of these two groups have contributed to the stability of their different attitudes toward behavior and mental health. (Author/PC)

Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children data were obtained from 18 violent juvenile offenders. The similarities ratio was computed and compared with the score from a random subsample of 18 juveniles from a larger population of 200 offenders. Compared black (N=614) and white (N=1,162) children on the Behavior Problem Checklist. Blacks were judged to have a greater frequency of behavior disorders than whites. A number of interactions of race with other variables were found, and their meanings are discussed. (Author)
