Fukkink, Ruben; Jilink, Lisanne; Oostdam, Ron – European Early Childhood Education Research Journal, 2017
Following on from successful early intervention programs abroad, the Netherlands also introduced a number of different programs to tackle educational disadvantage in preschool and early years education. Studies that investigate the effects of Dutch early childhood interventions have been published since 2000. This meta-analytic review study…

Hampton, L. H.; Kaiser, A. P. – Journal of Intellectual Disability Research, 2016
Background: Although spoken-language deficits are not core to an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) diagnosis, many children with ASD do present with delays in this area. Previous meta-analyses have assessed the effects of intervention on reducing autism symptomatology, but have not determined if intervention improves spoken language. This analysis…

Klintwall, Lars; Eldevik, Sigmund; Eikeseth, Svein – Autism: The International Journal of Research and Practice, 2015
Although still a matter of some debate, there is a growing body of research supporting Early and Intensive Behavioral Intervention as the intervention of choice for children with autism. Learning rate is an alternative to change in standard scores as an outcome measure in studies of early intervention. Learning rates can be displayed graphically…

Reichow, Brian; Barton, Erin E.; Boyd, Brian A.; Hume, Kara – Campbell Collaboration, 2014
Background: The rising prevalence of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) increases the need for evidence-based behavioral treatments to lessen the impact of symptoms on children's functioning. At present, there are no curative or psychopharmacological therapies to effectively treat all symptoms of the disorder. Early intensive behavioral intervention…

Bloom, Howard S.; Weiland, Christina – MDRC, 2015
This paper uses data from the Head Start Impact Study (HSIS), a nationally representative multisite randomized trial, to quantify variation in effects of Head Start during 2002-2003 on children's cognitive and socio-emotional outcomes relative to the effects of other local alternatives, including parent care. We find that (1) treatment and control…

Duncan, Greg J.; Leak, James A.; Li, Weilin; Magnuson, Katherine; Schindler, Holly; Yoshikawa, Hiro – Society for Research on Educational Effectiveness, 2011
The focus of this paper centers around timing associated with early childhood education programs and interventions using meta-analytic methods. At any given assessment age, a child's current age equals starting age, plus duration of program, plus years since program ended. Variability in assessment ages across the studies should enable everyone to…

Eldevik, Sigmund; Hastings, Richard P.; Hughes, J. Carl; Jahr, Erik; Eikeseth, Svein; Cross, Scott – Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, 2009
A systematic literature search for studies reporting effects of Early Intensive Behavioral Intervention identified 34 studies, 9 of which were controlled designs having either a comparison or a control group. We completed a meta-analysis yielding a standardized mean difference effect size for two available outcome measures: change in full-scale…

Taylor, Matthew J.; White, Karl R. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1992
Results obtained in a metanalysis using indirect alternative methods of computing standardized mean difference effect sizes (SMDESs) were compared with results obtained from direct calculations of SMDESs. In most cases, alternative methods yield very comparable results and are beneficial to use, especially when sample sizes are large. (SLD)
