Hooper, Jay; Cowell, Ryan – Educational Assessment, 2014
There has been much research and discussion on the principles of standards-based grading, and there is a growing consensus of best practice. Even so, the actual process of implementing standards-based grading at a school or district level can be a significant challenge. There are very practical questions that remain unclear, such as how the grades…

Peer reviewedLevy, Kenneth J. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1979
Dunnett's procedure for comparing K-1 treatments with a control is discussed within the context of three nonparametric models: those of Kruskal-Wallis, Friedman, and Cochran. (Author/MH)

Peer reviewedChakraborti, S.; Gibbons, Jean D. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1992
The one-sided problem of comparing treatments with a standard on the basis of data available in the context of a one-way analysis of variance is examined, and the methodology of S. Chakraborti and J. D. Gibbons (1991) is extended to the case of unequal sample sizes. (SLD)

Peer reviewedWhitney, Douglas R. – American Educational Research Journal, 1972
This paper describes two statistics (chi square and Kendall's S) which may be used to test hypotheses about the association between two variables when observations are cross-classified in a contingency table. (CK)

Peer reviewedBintig, Arnfried – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1980
Twelve variance-analytical and nonparametrical coefficients of reliability for rating scales designed for rating persons were compared to each other theoretically and empirically. Preference for two coefficients was established. The intraclass correlation coefficient appeared to be useful for the estimation of reliability as well. (Author/RL)

Peer reviewedChernyshenko, Oleksandr S.; Stark, Stephen; Chan, Kim-Yin; Drasgow, Fritz; Williams, Bruce – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 2001
Compared the fit of several Item Response Theory (IRT) models to two personality assessment instruments using data from 13,059 individuals responding to one instrument and 1,770 individuals responding to the other. Two- and three-parameter logistic models fit some scales reasonably well, but not others, and the graded response model generally did…

Beasley, T. Mark; Leitner, Dennis W. – 1993
The L statistic of E. B. Page (1963) tests the agreement of a single group of judges with an a priori ordering of alternative treatments. This paper extends the two group test of D. W. Leitner and C. M. Dayton (1976), an extension of the L test, to analyze difference in consensus between two unequally sized groups of judges. Exact critical values…

Peer reviewedPenfield, Douglas A.; Koffler, Stephen L. – Journal of Experimental Education, 1978
Three nonparametric alternatives to the parametric Bartlett test are presented for handling the K-sample equality of variance problem. The two-sample Siegel-Tukey test, Mood test, and Klotz test are extended to the multisample situation by Puri's methods. These K-sample scale tests are illustrated and compared. (Author/GDC)
