Biblical Counseling Learning Modalities: A Comparison of Graduate Online versus Residential Learning as It Relates to Student Competency
Kristin Lynn Kellen
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary
In the past two decades, more students are choosing to pursue online education. This is especially true with the pandemic restrictions across the world over the last year. This phenomenon affects students learning in every field; biblical counseling in seminary settings is of interest in this preliminary study. This research examined both qualitative and quantitative data collected from an expert panel and student assessment responses to gain insights regarding the effectiveness of online versus residential learning in producing skilled counselors. The key finding is that it is possible to evaluate students in five key areas, and that there is not a statistically significant difference in students who have been trained primarily online versus in person.
