Determined the effectiveness of the use of the language laboratory to teach counseling skills. A 52-minute self-instructional training tape program was developed in which a reflection of feeling was modeled. Scores on a multiple-choice language test involving recognition of language errors were related to those on writing samples, scored atomistically for the same language errors and holistically for communicative effectiveness and correctness.
