Distinction between norm referenced and criterion referenced tests are explored in relationship to underlying philosophy and intent. Scores from the Scholastic Aptitude Test and a new test of reading and writing, the California State University and Colleges English Placement Test, were examined to determine if unique properties for either test could be found. While a variety of scales and instruments to measure parental support exist, most of these have not received adequate analysis. Utilizing two bodies of data, the widely used Heilbrun, Cornell, and Schaefer measures of parental support were examined. Results are presented. (Author)

Behavioral Expectation Scales (BES) were compared to summated and trait-oriented scales as measures of teaching performance. The psychometric evidence suggests that the summated format is slightly superior. In terms of practicality (ease of use, defensibility, and accuracy), the summated scale is definitely superior. Comparison of the Goodenough-Harris and McCarthy scoring procedures for 60 kindergarten children's drawings yielded substantial agreement between the two scoring systems. Reliabilities for the Raven Colored Progressive Matrices Test (CPM) are reported for three age groups (ages 5 1/2- 6 1/2, 6 1/2-7 1/2, and 7 1/2-8 1/2 years) and three ethnic groups (Anglo, Black, and Hispanic). Results indicate CPM is not equally reliable for all age groups, but appears equally reliable for the three ethnic groups. (Author)

Compared the MMPI Scale 5 to the Bem Sex Role Inventory and Personal Attributes Questionnaire. Femininity measures were related more strongly to Scale 5 score than masculinity measures. It was concluded that Scale 5 may be interpreted more accurately as a measure of femininity rather than masculinity/femininity. (Author)
