Kano, Yutaka – Psychometrika, 1990
Based on the usual factor analysis model, this paper investigates the relationship between improper solutions and the number of factors. The properties of the noniterative estimation method of M. Ihara and Y. Kano in exploratory factor analysis are also discussed. The estimators were compared in a Monte Carlo experiment. (TJH)

Cole, Kevin N.; And Others – Applied Psycholinguistics, 1990
Compares the effects of language intervention over a one-year period on two groups of young children with delayed language: one group with cognitive skills markedly above their language level, and the other group with similar delays in cognitive and language skills. (28 references) (GLR)

Davies, Peter S. W.; Joughlin, C. – American Journal on Mental Retardation, 1993
This study found that the physical activity levels of 10 children with Prader-Willi syndrome were significantly reduced in comparison to children without the syndrome. Increasing activity levels in children with Prader-Willi syndrome is suggested as a way to raise total energy expenditure and control weight gain. (Author/JDD)

Price, Lydia J. – Multivariate Behavioral Research, 1993
The ability of the NORMIX algorithm to recover overlapping population structures was compared to the OVERCLUS procedure and another clustering procedure in a Monte Carlo study. NORMIX is found to be more accurate than other procedures in recovering overlapping population structure when appropriate implementation options are specified. (SLD)

Roberts, Patricia M.; Deslauriers, Louise – Journal of Communication Disorders, 1999
This study investigated whether cognateness affected verbal-confrontation naming performance in balanced French/English bilingual (N-15 aphasic and 15 nonaphasic) subjects. Results of a picture-naming test showed that cognate pictures were more often correctly named in both languages than were noncognates. Some error types and self-correction…

Norris, John M.; Ortega, Lourdes – Language Learning, 2000
Summarized findings from experimental and quasi-experimental investigations into the effectiveness of second language instruction. Comparisons of average effect sizes from sample studies indicated focused second language instruction results in large target-oriented gains, explicit types of instruction are more effective than implicit types, and…
