Blood, Erika; Neel, Richard – Journal of Technology and Teacher Education, 2008
The effects of using a student response system (SRS) in a graduate lecture class in special education were investigated. Comparisons of content mastery and self-reported engagement between lectures with the SRS and without were made. Students demonstrated more mastery of content on weekly quizzes and reported increased class engagement on those…

Trees, April R.; Jackson, Michele H. – Learning, Media and Technology, 2007
To explore what social and educational infrastructure is needed to support classroom use of student response systems (Roschelle et al., 2004), this study investigated the ways in which student characteristics and course design choices were related to students' assessments of the contribution of clicker use to their learning and involvement in the…

Gerardo, Alex – Engineering Education, 1986
Presents findings from a comparison of traditional classroom lecture on lecture-replacement stand-alone PLATO-based delivery made to learn Fortran. Two semesters were examined separately, semester one (n=54) and semester two (n=36), using a two-tailed t-test at .01 level of significance. No difference was found. (JM)

Wentz, Elizabeth A.; Vender, Joann C.; Brewer, Cynthia A. – Journal of Geography in Higher Education, 1999
Compares student reactions to traditional teaching methods and an approach where computer-based tools (GEODe CD-ROM and GIS-based exercises) were either integrated with or replaced the traditional methods. Reveals that the students found both of these tools valuable forms of instruction when used in combination with the traditional methods. (CMK)

Bell, Tim; Cockburn, Andy; McKenzie, Bruce; Vargo, John – 2001
Preparing courses for flexible delivery and distance education is normally a time-consuming and expensive process. This paper describes the design and evaluation of a system that automatically captures and indexes audio and video streams of traditional university lectures without demanding any changes in the style or tools used by teachers. Using…

Barker, Philip – Educational Technology Review, 1997
Outlines the nature of electronic performance support and ways it can be used to enhance conventional lecturing. Describes the generic processes and related tools involved in creating and using electronic lectures. Concludes with a short case study of a prototype system recently created to investigate staff and student attitudes toward this…
