Assessment Update, v37 n3 p4-5, 13-14 2025
As our society becomes increasingly globalized, it is essential for students to gain international experience. Over the last several years, global learning has been integrated into undergraduate education in various ways, including virtual global exchanges. Virtual exchange is a web-based international collaboration between undergraduate students from two universities. These exchanges are becoming more prevalent due to their cost-effectiveness compared to transitional study-abroad programs. While an estimated 10% of students are financially or otherwise able to participate in a study-abroad program, virtual exchanges are widely more accessible to undergraduate students. By creating and offering exchange, the students at the universities gain a cultural understanding that allows them to succeed beyond their undergraduate programs.
