Higher Education Enrollment Projections: A Model.
Washington State Higher Education Facilities Commission, Olympia.
This report describes a higher education enrollment projection model developed for the state of Washington. The model operates on a student flow concept quantifying students through the flows of entrances, retention, transfers, and exits. The model is based on the assumption that the manner in which students now move through the State's higher education system will be similar during the projection period. Projections were produced for the State's entire higher education system, presently including 22 community college districts, and 18 universities and colleges. An expansion figure has been programmed into the model so that potentially 25 community colleges and 20 universities and colleges can be handled. The model operates by annual iterations, projecting students according to the number of students within each student flow. In addition, the 4-year institutions are projected by class for the undergraduate students. Community college projections contain source of students by student flow category with no class distinction. The model can address "what if" contingency questions, and is programmed in FORTRAN IV for the IBM 360 with core requirements of 110K. (Author/AF)
