Oxman, Victor; Stupel, Moshe – International Journal of Mathematical Education in Science and Technology, 2018
A geometrical task is presented with multiple solutions using different methods, in order to show the connection between various branches of mathematics and to highlight the importance of providing the students with an extensive 'mathematical toolbox'. Investigation of the property that appears in the task was carried out using a computerized tool.

Paoletti, Teo; Monahan, Ceire; Vishnubhotla, Madhavi – Mathematics Teacher, 2017
GeoGebra is a free tool that has the potential to change both how and what is taught in mathematics. GeoGebra allows teachers and students to explore various mathematical ideas either through the full applet (https://www.geogebra.org/graphing) or by sharing applets via GeoGebra's Materials site (https://www.geogebra. org/materials/). It has many…

Shahriari, Razieh – ProQuest LLC, 2019
This mixed qualitative and quantitative methods study addressed the effect of technology on college algebra and survey of calculus students' understanding. This research study was conducted in fall 2016 on eight college algebra classes with a total of 315 students, and in summer 2017, on two survey of calculus classes with a total of 40 students…

Sayed, Fayez – International Association for Development of the Information Society, 2015
The wide range of Mathematical Apps targeting different mathematical concepts and the various types of mobile devices available present a demanding and challenging problem to the teaching and learning in the field of mathematics. In an attempt to address this issue, a few Apps were selected, implemented and tested in this work. [For complete…

Hosack, John M. – College Mathematics Journal, 1986
Computer algebra systems are described. Features of such systems and information on MACSYMA, Maple, muMath, REDUCE, and SMP are given. (MNS)
Descriptors: Algebra, Calculus, College Mathematics, Computer Oriented Programs

Kimberling, Clark – Mathematics Teacher, 1986
Discusses computer solutions for factoring problems. Includes listing for (1) a program that multiplies two user-chosen factors (X-R times X-S) and allows subsequent multiplications by more linear factors and (2) a program which computes P(X)/(AX plus B), where P(X) is a user-chosen polynomial and AX plus B is a user-chosen divisor. (JN)

Reagan, James – Mathematics Teacher, 1986
An application of functions and their inverses is described--the coding and decoding of messages, or cryptographs. The helpfulness of computers is noted, with two programs listed. (MNS)
Descriptors: Algebra, Computer Oriented Programs, Computer Software, Functions (Mathematics)

Stannard, William A. – School Science and Mathematics, 1984
Suggested is the presentation of problems for which student teams are to write computer programs which will reveal the results of guesses at the answer by users of the program. Illustrative problems and programs are included. (MNS)
Descriptors: Algebra, Computer Oriented Programs, Computer Software, Mathematics Instruction

Tall, David – Mathematics in School, 1986
A programing approach is described, using numerical methods to draw implicit functions, without solving the relationships explicitly. Several examples are discussed, with programs and printouts included. (MNS)

Small, Don; And Others – College Mathematics Journal, 1986
Computer algebra systems (such as MACSYMA and muMath) can carry out many of the operations of calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations. Use of them with sketching graphs of rational functions and with other topics is discussed. (MNS)
Descriptors: Algebra, Calculus, College Mathematics, Computer Oriented Programs
Lance, R. H.; And Others – Engineering Education, 1985
Sophomore and junior students in the College of Engineering at Cornell University have been taught engineering mathematics using new computer software that performs exact symbolic algebraic and calculus operations. Describes this software, the computer-based mathematics laboratory, changes in the teaching/learning environment, and short- and…

Goldenberg, E. Paul – Journal of Mathematical Behavior, 1988
Computer software with graphic representations of functions can teach algebraic concepts, or can blur or obscure concepts of great importance. Making good use and bad use of visual imagery are each discussed. Then a general theory of interpretation of graphs is proposed, and a list of examples is presented. (MNS)

Cunningham, R. S.; Smith, David A. – College Mathematics Journal, 1987
Contains an update of an earlier listing of software for mathematics instruction at the college level. Topics are: advanced mathematics, algebra, calculus, differential equations, discrete mathematics, equation solving, general mathematics, geometry, linear and matrix algebra, logic, statistics and probability, and trigonometry. (PK)
