McLellan, Hilary – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 1994
Discussion of the use of virtual reality in higher education looks at how this emerging computer-based technology can promote learning that engages all seven forms of intelligence proposed in H. Gardner's theory of multiple intelligences. Technical and conceptual issues in implementation of virtual reality in education are also examined.…

Jonassen, David H.; Grabinger, R. Scott – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 1992
A discussion of the use of hypertext for college instruction looks at the potential of hypertext to support active construction of knowledge and outlines hypertext applications as a vehicle for traditional computer-assisted instruction, information retrieval, and creation of intentional learning environments and knowledge construction…

Soderberg, Patti; And Others – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 1994
The Genetics Construction Kit is a computer-based learning tool that simulates the phenomena of classical transmission genetics. Its construction kit approach lets users set the parameters of the problem sets to be generated. The program has been used extensively in science education research and curriculum development. Jonassen, David H. – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 1995
Cognitive tools, computer-based applications normally used as productivity software, can also function as knowledge representation formalisms that require learners to think critically. Databases, spreadsheets, semantic networks, expert systems, and multimedia/hypermedia construction can function as computer-based cognitive tools to expand student…

Kearsley, Greg – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 1992
A study used hypertext to analyze links between 45 learning/instructional theories, 18 concepts, and 17 learning domains in the Theory into Practice (TIP) database. Results suggest that there is less overlap in theories of learning and instruction than commonly assumed. Use of this kind of tool for research and practice is discussed. (MSE)

Gibbs, William J. – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 1998
Describes an online college course and student perceptions of the virtual-classroom experience. Students appreciated course flexibility and convenience and found it conducive to thoughtful analysis of class questions and commentary. However, they felt isolated from peers and instructor, and lack of face-to-face interaction hindered communication.…

Krendl, Kathy A.; Clark, Ginger – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 1994
Literature on the influence of computers on learning in formal classroom and informal out-of-school contexts is reviewed, and the primary policy considerations in diffusion of computer-based educational technology are examined. The article suggests that the boundaries between formal and informal learning environments can be overcome with…

Land, Bruce; LoPerfido, Allison – Journal of Computing in Higher Education, 1992
Computerized simulation of physical phenomena is a growing area of high-performance computing, providing a new approach to scientific discovery and offering creative, efficient, and effective alternatives to laboratory experiments for teaching graduate and undergraduate science. The technique is a very important scientific and instructional tool.…
