Like universities, the correctional programs that produce the most successful graduates are those with the most stringent entrance requirements. Recidivism data on 166 spouse abusers ordered to attend a "Batterers Anonymous" seminar showed a success rate of 80 percent after 18 months. The intervention worked less well for intensely violent men who suffered romantic crises. (Ten BA sessions are outlined.) (SK)
