Assessed amount of cost-saving represented by the use of volunteer services within a probation and parole agency for a 12-month period. Results indicated that volunteer services represented cost savings in excess of $145,000 for the year, and that these services represent an average of 6.33 full time employees (FTEs) per month. Examined disciplinary problems of inmates who were properly matched with the institution's level according to the Security Designation and Custody Classification system. Data from files of 342 male inmates showed matched inmates received no disciplinary reports and appeared to adjust more effectively than inmates who were not matched. (JAC)

Qualitative study of New Jersey State Prison (Sykes, 1956) concluded that authority of guards was corrupted by inmates.
