Kear-Colwell, J. J. – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1977
The Wechsler Memory Scale was administered to 112 patients who had been referred to a clinical psychologist for investigation of cognitive functioning with regard to possible or actual organic pathology of the brain. The aim was to replicate the factor structure of this test found in a previous study. (Editor)

Pierce, Walter D.; Goetz, Howard G. – Illinois School Research, 1973
Knowing and having just learned are not exactly the same thing. Neither is the fact that a student can think necessarily evidence that he has been taught. This provocative study raises more questions than it answers. (Editor)

Lunzer, E. A.; And Others – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1976
A battery of 28 individually administered tests, comprised of measures derived from the work of Piaget, of simple and complex learning, of language, short-term memory, long-term memory and intelligence were given to 210 children aged 5 to 6 during their first year of schooling. (Editor)

Lonka, Kirsti; Mikkonen, Valde – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1989
Reports results of a study that analyzed two samples of essay-type examination answers and their connections with the grades obtained by Finnish high school graduation candidates. A two-way classification scheme is described where both the subject matter base and the type of information processing were taken into account. (nine references) (LRW)

Curcio, Frank; Weiss, Beverly – 1974
A total of 186 kindergarteners were pretested on number conservation and two cognitive style measures representing Kagan's impulsivity-reflectivity dimension and Santostefano's leveling-sharpening dimension. From this sample 72 nonconservers were assigned to one of three conservation training conditions: reversibility training, discrimination…

Bruce, Harry W. – Journal of the American Society for Information Science, 1994
Discussion of the situational dynamism of user-centered relevance estimation focuses on a study that used magnitude estimation to express the relative importance of each document retrieved from an information retrieval system. Topics addressed include relevance estimation as a cognitive schema and the relationship between learning and user…

Underwood, Jean; Underwood, Geoffrey – British Journal of Educational Psychology, 1987
Discussion of the use of computer-based information retrieval systems in schools focuses on three paper and pencil experiments conducted in the United Kingdom that were designed to investigate how 9- to 11-year-olds organized and retrieved information from four organizational structures: lists, hierarchies, networks, and tables. (18 references)…

Jonassen, David H. – 1986
The purpose of this study was to adapt the Hidden Figures Test (a measure of field dependence/independence) to microcomputer display and to assess its alternate form reliability when compared to a paper and pencil test. Participants included 58 undergraduate and graduate students (91.4% female) at a southeastern university who were fairly normal…

Wolters, Christopher A.; Pintrich, Paul R. – Instructional Science, 1998
Examines contextual differences in student motivation and self-regulated learning in seventh- and eighth-grade mathematics, social studies, and English. Results revealed differences by subject area and gender in motivation and cognitive strategy use variables, but not in regulatory strategy use or academic performance; relations among these…
