What Works Clearinghouse Rating
Viola Merhof; Caroline M. Böhm; Thorsten Meiser – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 2024
Item response tree (IRTree) models are a flexible framework to control self-reported trait measurements for response styles. To this end, IRTree models decompose the responses to rating items into sub-decisions, which are assumed to be made on the basis of either the trait being measured or a response style, whereby the effects of such person…

An, Lily Shiao; Ho, Andrew Dean; Davis, Laurie Laughlin – Educational Measurement: Issues and Practice, 2022
Technical documentation for educational tests focuses primarily on properties of individual scores at single points in time. Reliability, standard errors of measurement, item parameter estimates, fit statistics, and linking constants are standard technical features that external stakeholders use to evaluate items and individual scale scores.…

Dombrowski, Stefan C.; Beaujean, A. Alexander; McGill, Ryan J.; Benson, Nicholas F. – Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment, 2019
The Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Achievement, Fourth Edition (WJ IV ACH) is purported to align with Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) theory and offers upward of 20 scores within its interpretive and scoring system. The Technical Manual does not furnish validity evidence for the scores reported by the scoring system, suggesting that evidentiary support may…

Liu, Yubo; Zhang, Wei – Interpreter and Translator Trainer, 2023
As a replication in the Chinese context of previous aptitude testing validation studies, this research aims at exploring the validity of an interpreting aptitude test battery, composed of the Logical Memory Test (LMT), the Scale of Language Anxiety (SLA) and the Achievement Motivation Test (AMT), in the prediction of consecutive interpreting…

Yoo, Hanwook; Manna, Venessa F. – Language Testing, 2017
This study assessed the factor structure of the Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC®) Listening and Reading test, and its invariance across subgroups of test-takers. The subgroups were defined by (a) gender, (b) age, (c) employment status, (d) time spent studying English, and (e) having lived in a country where English is the…

Rindermann, Heiner; Baumeister, Antonia E. E. – International Journal of Testing, 2015
Scholastic tests regard cognitive abilities to be domain-specific competences. However, high correlations between competences indicate either high task similarity or a dependence on common factors. The present rating study examined the validity of 12 Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) and Third or Trends in International…

Langan, Anthony Mark; Dunleavy, Peter; Fielding, Alan – Education Sciences, 2013
Many countries use national-level surveys to capture student opinions about their university experiences. It is necessary to interpret survey results in an appropriate context to inform decision-making at many levels. To provide context to national survey outcomes, we describe patterns in the ratings of science and engineering subjects from the…

Ghafournia, Narjes; Afghari, Akbar – English Language Teaching, 2013
The study scrutinized the probable interaction between using cognitive test-taking strategies, reading proficiency, and reading comprehension test performance of Iranian postgraduate students, who studied English as a foreign language. The study also probed the extent to which the participants' test performance was related to the use of certain…

Hafner, James L.; And Others – Journal of Clinical Psychology, 1979
A WAIS short form, consisting of the Similarities, Picture Arrangement, and Block Design subtests, was administered to 109 undergraduates. Correlation between these scores and their Full Scale WAIS IQ scores was .90. The subtests underestimated IQ by 9.29 points, suggesting that the constant be adjusted for this population. (SJL)

Sawyer, Robert N.; And Others – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1979
High intercorrelations among the six subtests of the Pictorial Test of Intelligence raise questions regarding the construct validity of the instrument. A factor analysis was performed. A single factor with stable factor loadings emerged. (Author/JKS)

Test Service Bulletin, 1949
Ways are suggested in which validation studies may be carried out by personnel workers who use tests in selection and placement. The correlational techniques discussed are the product-moment correlation coefficient, biserial correlation coefficient, tetrachoric coefficient of correlation. The summarizing techniques (a term used to refer to methods…

Schroeder, Lee L.
College Level Examination Program (CLEP) Tests were normed on a national basis, administering the test to nationwide samples of subjects. Norms appear in the booklet, CLEP Scores: Interpretation and Use, and consist of the test score means for groups of students receiving grades of A, B, C, D, and F in the relevant course, the proportion of…

Hanna, Gerald S.; Sonnenschein, Joan L. – Educational and Psychological Measurement, 1985
The relative predictive validity of girls' and boys' success in algebra is examined. Eighth-grade students completed the Orleans-Hanna Algebra Prognosis Test. These prognosis test scores were correlated with grades that students subsequently earned in first-year algebra. Algebra grades of girls proved to be the more predictable. (Author/DWH)

Smith, Stuart E.; And Others – 1994
Intercorrelations among the 1985 occupational scales of the Strong-Campbell Interest Inventory (SCII) for 1985 for each of the six Holland groups are presented. These intercorrelations are based on large recent samples of entering college students. A second objective was to determine the extent to which the 1985 occupational scales are correctly…
