Robyn S. Hilliard
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Wilmington University (Delaware)
The importance and impact of employee voice expression has been studied extensively in the literature within multiple contexts. Many organizations believe creating a culture and building in processes where employees feel safe to express their voice, lead to better organizational outcomes. The healthcare industry has experienced critical staffing shortages over the past few years related to the COVID-19 global pandemic and the great resignation. Organizations must continuously adapt and seek new strategies to attract and retain quality employees. This study examined the relationship of organizational recognition on employee voice and organizational citizenship behavior. The purpose of this research project was to gain insight in determining employee voice expression best practices and the change necessary to improve organizational citizenship behavior and increase retention. Participants were surveyed to learn about their perceptions of voice behaviors and organizational citizenship behaviors based on the type of recognition they received. Study findings suggested a significant relationship exists between organizational recognition on employee voice behaviors and organizational citizenship behaviors. These findings can assist organizations in strategic planning related to employee voice expression impacting organizational citizenship behavior and retention.
