The effect on counseling interview process and outcome of the following variables was studied: (a) assigning clients to more preferred or less preferred counselors; (b) giving clients either positive, nonexistent, or negative expectancy inductions regarding counselor assignments and (c) congruence and incongruence between clients' expectations and experiences.
