The new Master of Environmental Science degree program at Miami University is interdisciplinary in approach and problem solving in methodology. The training program consists of interdisciplinary core courses designed to develop the problem solving process, and of courses in an area of specialization. The program is considered a success. Northern Minnesota secondary teachers (N=55) were surveyed on their knowledge of a priority for selected water topics. Teachers' assessment of these topic areas provide: (1) a suggested structure for marine education; (2) the evaluation of existing curricula; and (3) needs analysis to determine areas of future curriculum development.
