Color data from the Osgood et al. 23-culture semantic differential study of affective meanings reveal cross-cultural similarities in feelings about colors. The concept RED is affectively quite salient; BLACK and GREY are bad, and WHITE, BLUE, and GREEN are good; YELLOW, WHITE, and GREY are weak; RED and BLACK are strong. (RJ)

Item response theory was used to test cross-cultural scalar equivalence of a psychological measurement instrument. The overall modernity scale administered to Hispanic Americans and mainstream subjects was found to be reliable. No differences in attitudes were found between subject groups. (CMG)

Bem's Sex Role Inventory (BSRI) was given to undergraduates in Mexico. Some new items of sex role traits were added. The findings showed that traits on the BSRI are relevant in Mexico, but analysis of additional items showed that other important aspects of sex roles are not included in the BSRI. (VM)
