Four common schools of thought in the curriculum arena are the linear, holistic, laissez faire, and critical theorist approaches. A model of teacher decision-making, which describes how a teacher pursues a plan by means of a set of tactics, is presented. It is argued that teaching competence derives in part from the teacher's ability to generate appropriate tactics. Implications for teacher training are discussed. (RLV)
