Suggested are three ways that values education, judging, moral discernment, and value-guided action can be developed within higher education: organization of the curriculum to heighten sensitivity to values and enhance dexterity in using them; field study to foster ideas in action; and the environment and example of the college itself. Among other things, a general education is the habit of questioning. It transcends the more narrow limitations of a specific discipline. A core curriculum needs to be prescribed that consists of a variety of special interdisciplinary courses or ones especially organized around unifying interdisciplinary problems. (SW)
