Perry Carson, Cecyle K.; Carson, David K.; Klee, Thomas; Jackman-Brown, Jennifer – Communication Disorders Quarterly, 2007
This study examined self-reported parenting behaviors, and child temperament and behavior, based on parental perceptions of 47 toddlers ages 25 to 31 months. Data were obtained via parental reports and direct assessment. Children were identified as having a speech-language delay (SLD, n = 17) or as typically developing (n = 30) based on…

Vigi, Debra C.; Hodges, Jennifer; Klee, Thomas – Child Language Teaching and Therapy, 2005

Klee, Thomas; Pearce, Kim; Carson, David K. – Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 2000
This study evaluated application of a revised criterion for the Language Development Survey, a parent-report screening measure designed to identify young children with language delays. The revised criterion generated fewer false positives, improved specificity, and improved positive predictive value while maintaining the high sensitivity and high…

Carson, David K.; Perry, Cecyle K.; Diefenderfer, Amy; Klee, Thomas – Infant-Toddler Intervention: The Transdisciplinary Journal, 1999
This study compared perceptions of parents of 64 children identified as either language delayed (LD) or language normal (LN) at age 2. Reassessment was conducted at age 5 or 6 for 26 families. Parents of LD children reported themselves to be less nurturing, less oriented toward independence training, less sociable, and more externally oriented…

Carson, David K.; Klee, Thomas; Lee, Sarah; Perry, Cecyle K.; Williams, Karen C. – Journal of Children's Communication Development, 1998
This study examined the relationship among language proficiency, behavior problems, and other areas of development in 36 children (ages 36 to 40 months). A strong association was found between deficiencies in both expressive and receptive language and behavioral difficulties. Specifically, deficits in expressive language at age 2 were more…

Klee, Thomas; Carson, David K.; Gavin, William J.; Hall, Lisa; Kent, Amy; Reece, Shaily – Journal of Speech, Language, and Hearing Research, 1998
The efficacy of screening two-year-old children for language delay using a parent report questionnaire was investigated in three related studies. Parents' reports of children's expressive vocabulary size was highly correlated with clinical language measures at age two, but somewhat less accurate at predicting developmental status a year later.
