As part of the required Introduction to Clinical Sciences course, second-year students at Georgetown University School of Medicine attend three one-hour lectures on dentistry: restorative dentistry, oral surgery, and various diseases. Contents of the lectures are summarized here. (JT)

In the longitudinal study reported here a comparison was made of changes in basic professional orientations of students during the first three years of professional socialization in four health fields in Israel: medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, and nursing. (Editor)

Results of a survey of all U.S. and Canadian medical schools concerning the extent and nature of instruction in dental topics for medical students also revealed the perceived importance of including such instruction in the undergraduate medical curriculum and barriers to teaching dental topics to medical students. The Work Group on the Education of the Health Professions and the Nation's Health offers the theme of discontinuity to describe why so little useful knowledge has been derived from research in this area and to suggest a more productive approach for future studies.
