The advancement of deaf education and services in numerous developing countries can be traced to the pioneering efforts of many Gallaudet University alumni. Jackson, Rebecca L. W.; Ammerman, Sarah B.; Trautwein, Blane A. – American Annals of the Deaf, 2015
Earlier indentification has increased the number of infants identified with hearing loss. A significant and growing proportion of children who are D/deaf or hard of hearing have a disability (DWD). Literature related to infants and toddlers who are DWD is scarce because of the heterogeneity of the population and because many disabilities may go…

Myck-Wayne, Janice; Robinson, Suzanne; Henson, Erica – American Annals of the Deaf, 2011
The research on young children with a dual diagnosis of hearing loss and autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is meager and scattered. Pockets of research on this population of children suggest that it is difficult to make the diagnosis of ASD in children with hearing loss. A case study design was used to examine the diagnostic process for young…

Decker, Kalli B.; Vallotton, Claire D.; Johnson, Harold A. – American Annals of the Deaf, 2012
Choosing a method of communication for a child with hearing loss is a complex process that must occur early to prevent developmental consequences.
