A sample of 578 bachelor of education students randomly chosen from three Nigerian universities were surveyed during the 1982-83 school year to determine the social origins of student teachers in Nigeria. Findings are presented. (Author/MT)

Taiwo, Diran – Studies in Educational Evaluation, 1982
A study of education students at University of Ife, Nigeria, indicated that (1) the subjects did not bring a "tabula rasa" knowledge of the course content into the study and (2) the course led to knowledge gain even after the effect of preentry knowledge was "partialed out" from end-of-course knowledge. An evaluation of 114 students' impressions of a Nigerian college's bachelor of education program determined that some types of students were more satisfied with the program than others. Areas of dissatisfaction and of strength are described. Implications for development and improvement of the bachelor of education program are discussed. (CB)

In an effort to enlist teachers' interests in the educational campaign for smoking abatement, the smoking behaviors of prospective teachers in Nigeria were studied. A study to identify relationships between the amount of exposure students have to education (as a discipline) and their student teaching performances is reported. Students attending the University of Ife from 1973-1976 were studied. A positive relationship was discovered, but other factors need to be researched further. (MLW)

A preservice Nigerian teacher education program was evaluated to determine the level of congruence among the perceptions of teacher educators, students, graduates, and employers. A five point Likert-like 30 item rating scale was used to collect data. Results and possible explanations are presented. Implications are discussed. (Author/MT)

A study of the attitudes of Nigeria's senior education majors about the quality of the programs offered found overall satisfaction with courses, instructors, and instruction in their teaching subject departments in all but two schools, and satisfaction with the education departments in all but one school.
