How New England Educational Leaders Used Emotional Intelligence to Lead Their Schools through the COVID-19 Pandemic
Ruth Grube
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Southern New Hampshire University
The COVID-19 crisis was a global upheaval that significantly impacted the education systems--in the face of this, district and school leadership demonstrated remarkable resilience, overcoming the challenge of educating students through these uncertain times. They drew upon their existing leadership skills while also acquiring new ones they never anticipated needing. Their ability to maintain all stakeholder relationships, instill confidence, and foster trust was commendable. This research delved into the literature on crisis management, focusing on how school leadership navigated through this crisis. The study explored whether the leaders utilized any of the four components of emotional intelligence in their practice during the COVID-19 crisis. The findings revealed that school leaders employed communication and collaboration components from the Emotional Intelligence framework in their practice, effectively leading through the crisis.
