A simple probability game was analyzed hierarchically in terms of the strategies that would lead most often to an efficient sequence of plays. A series of experiments showed there was no relationship between the use of first-order strategy and knowledge of the probability content of the game. (Author/GDC)

Students in seven grade six and eight grade eight classes were involved in this study in which the effect of two versions of the "Mastermind" game on logical reasoning were compared. No differential effects on test performance were found, nor did playing the games promote improved formal reasoning skills. (MNS)

The game "Order Out", which uses manipulative and pictorial aids, is effective in teaching the ordering of common fractions. The use of manipulative or pictorial aids during instruction did not significantly affect achievement. Gender-related achievement trends were observed. (CJ)

This study was designed to determine the effectiveness of two microcomputer instructional games in teaching probability and measurement estimation to 78 preservice elementary school teachers.
