This publication provides an overview of the current federal opportunities to help states advance their data-related activities. Although not exhaustive, this list provides a starting point for federal policymakers to support states' work in this area.

Current trends in new technology, including computer registration, the development of computerized Student Information Systems, the use of remote terminals, and other automated methods to assist student and curricular problems are reviewed. Recent state and federal legislative requirements affecting higher education are also discussed. (LBH)
