Presents an analysis of the literature on three major components affecting continuing education for health care professionals: the goals of continuing education, the design of programs, and the outcomes of efforts. Specific recommendations are provided. (Author/CT)

It is argued that, in France, the role and status of continuing education in the university are unstable and are not accommodated well by the university system. Although the universities serve the greater community and public good, the focus of continuing education is individual advancement and the relationship remains problematic. (MSE)

Presented are objectives for a continuing education program designed to meet the needs of foster parents. The author suggests that university programs that use an interdisciplinary approach and capitalize on university-community resources can design successful parenting programs for foster parents. (KC)
