Yadav, Savita; Chakraborty, Pinaki – Childhood Education, 2021
Children like to play with smartphones and other touchscreen-based devices, and suitably developed apps can help in entertaining, nurturing, and educating children. For the last three years, the authors have been studying how children interact with smartphones and other touchscreen-based devices. They assert that knowing the capabilities of…

Chiou, Guo-Li; Hsu, Chung-Yuan; Tsai, Meng-Jung – Interactive Learning Environments, 2022
The purpose of this study was to explore how students interacted with guidance to conduct a scientific inquiry in a physics simulation by using the eye-tracking techniques. The participants were 51 7th graders, and an eye-tracking system was used to record their visual behaviors and log data while they were using the simulation. As for data…

Moser, Stephanie; Zumbach, Joerg; Deibl, Ines – Science Education, 2017
Computer-based simulations are of particular interest to physics learning because they allow learners to actively manipulate graphical visualizations of complex phenomena. However, learning with simulations requires supportive elements to scaffold learners' activities. Thus, our motivation was to investigate whether direct or indirect…

Kara, Nuri; Aydin, Cansu Cigdem; Cagiltay, Kursat – Interactive Learning Environments, 2014
This article introduces StoryTech, a smart storytelling toy that offers children a mixed reality environment in which to tell imaginative stories. During usability testing, an empirical study was carried out with 90 child participants. The findings indicated that StoryTech creates a rich storytelling experience, especially for ages five and six.

Kwon, Seolim; Lara, Miguel; Enfield, Jake; Frick, Theodore – Journal of Educational Technology Systems, 2013
Conducting an iterative usability testing, a set of prompts used as a form of instructional support was developed in order to facilitate the comprehension of the diffusion of innovations theory (Rogers, 2003) in a simulation game called the Diffusion Simulation Game (DSG) (Molenda & Rice, 1979). The six subjects who participated in the study…

Chang, Kuo-En; Chen, Yu-Lung; Lin, He-Yan; Sung, Yao-Ting – Computers & Education, 2008
This paper describes the effects of learning support on simulation-based learning in three learning models: experiment prompting, a hypothesis menu, and step guidance. A simulation learning system was implemented based on these three models, and the differences between simulation-based learning and traditional laboratory learning were explored in…
