Jacqueline Sera-Sirven
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Northcentral University
The problem addressed by this study was the teacher resistance to new technology integration into the instructional practices of veteran K-12 teachers. Understanding their reasons for resistance may provide educational leaders and administrators with a better understanding of motivating or training veteran teachers. Teachers may demonstrate familiarity with technology, but that does not indicate that they are prepared support in providing professional development and training on strategies for implementing new technology in their classrooms. The lack of knowledge on new technology made teachers feel ineffective in the classroom. Veteran teachers also noted frustration levels with implementing to use technology in their everyday delivery of their lessons. The purpose of this qualitative single case descriptive study was to examine the resistance veteran teachers face with integrating new technology within their classrooms. This single case descriptive study design based on the qualitative data provided an understanding of the research through semi-structured questions, focus group sessions, and collected documents. Data was collected through semi-structured questions, a focus group session, and relevant documents. The findings revealed a lack of administrative new technology because time was an obstacle that impeded the use of technology. The implications were that teaching and preparing students with the technological skills that they need in the future depends on whether veteran teachers integrate technology to teach their students to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, and active participants with the use of technology. It is recommended that future researchers expand the scope of research about examining the resistance veteran teachers face with integrating new technology within their classrooms.
