The authors report on two studies showing that the Slosson Intelligence Test yields higher scores than the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test for both nursery school and third-grade children, indicating that care should be taken when the SIT is used for intellectual screening. (Author)

A longitudinal evaluation of the utility of a screening battery administered in kindergarten is shown to retain a high utility for predicting current achievement outcomes of the sample at the end of grade six. The Screening Test of Academic Readiness (STAR) and the Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test (PPVT) were administered to 52 kindergarten children to reveal the convergent validity of IQ scores derived from the STAR. The findings raise doubts about the validity of the deviation IQs derived from the STAR. (Author)
