Thaut, Michael H. – Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders, 1987
The study investigated perceptual preferences of five autistic children (mean age 10.6 years). Results indicated a weak (not statistically significant) preference for auditory musical stimuli over visual stimuli. Autistic children spent significantly more time than did normals with the musical stimulus. (Author/DB)

Strawbridge, Leigh A.; And Others – Journal of the Association for Persons with Severe Handicaps (JASH), 1987
The study evaluated a positive behavior therapy approach to managing disruptive screaming and crying in a classroom setting by a ten-year-old female with severe retardation, visual impairment, and physical disabilities. Auditory stimulation decreased disruptive behavior to zero levels, and gains were maintained at five-month followup. (Author/DB)
