Margaret K. Wallace; Jason Jabbari; Yung Chun; Takeshi Terada; Somalis Chy – Annenberg Institute for School Reform at Brown University, 2025
Student mobility that occurs within a school year may be especially disruptive for student outcomes, yet little is known regarding the predictors of within-year mobility. In particular, research has yet to comprehensively examine the role of student achievement in predicting within-year student mobility. Thus, we sought to understand this link by…

Skrzypiec, Grace; Askell-Williams, Helen; Zhao, Xueqin; Du, Wenping; Cao, Fei; Xing, Lihong – Psychology in the Schools, 2018
There has been substantial research in the United States, Europe, and Australia about factors influencing students' well-being. However, such research has been relatively rare in Mainland China. We administered four predictor scales (School Satisfaction, Self-Concept, Relationships, and Resilience) and three outcome scales (Flourishing, Mental…

Cavallo, Fernando – ProQuest LLC, 2012
The current study was completed through a retrospective analysis of school records of elementary school students in the Northeast Region of the Philadelphia School District (PSD) who have participated in the Fast ForWord (FFW) Language program. The data requested from student records included: demographic information (e.g., gender, grade, age,…

Hartas, Dimitra – British Educational Research Journal, 2012
Using a UK representative sample from the Millennium Cohort Study, the present study examined the unique and cumulative contribution of children's characteristics and attitudes to school, home learning environment and family's socio-economic background to children's language and literacy at the end of Key Stage 1 (age seven-years-old).…

Harckham, Laura D.; And Others – 1971
A longitudinal study of 553 children, from kindergarten through grade 4, was conducted to determine whether measures readily available in school districts, taken in kindergarten by classroom teachers, could predict reading achievement on standardized tests in succeeding grades. Scores on the Metropolitan Readiness Test, the Draw-a-Man Test, a…

Droege, Kristin L.; Stipek, Deborah J. – Developmental Psychology, 1993
Kindergartners and third and sixth graders chose classmates whom they would and would not like to have as teammates for an academic contest and as playmates; they also rated their classmates on likability and academic ability. At all ages, children's choices for academic competition and play were associated with their ratings of their classmates'…

Gastright, Joseph F. – 1974
An investigation was undertaken of the intercorrelations among residuals obtained by applying regression techniques under two conditions: (1) mean sixth-grade Metropolitan Achievement Test reading scores predicted by mean second-grade Stanford Achievement Test reading scores, and (2) mean sixth-grade reading scores predicted by mean second-grade…

Wilson, Barry; And Others – 1977
The Brain Wave Analyzer (BWA Ertl 02) was used to measure the brain potentials of 110 public school children. Resulting scores were correlated with concurrent measures of school achievement. Results indicate that certain brain wave scores have relatively low correlations with school achievement compared to traditional intelligence measures but may…

Barnes, Roberta Ott – 1988
This report describes the analyses of student participation in two school nutrition programs, the School Breakfast Program (SBP) and the National School Lunch Program (NSLP). Data were collected from students and their families during the 1983-84 school year as part of the National Evaluation of the School Nutrition Programs (NESNP). Each program…

Haupt, Edward J.; Herman-Sissons, Therese M. – 1980
A study explored the relation between Piagetian conservation tasks, IQ scores, and reading test scores. A series of 16 items involving conservation tasks for area, length, weight, and volume were presented to 516 students in grades four through nine. The scores on these conservation items were correlated with students' scores on achievement and IQ…

Nighswander, James K.; Beggs, Donald L. – 1971
The relative predictive abilities of two indices of test anxiety were investigated. The galvanic skin response (GSR) and the Test Anxiety Scale for Children (TASC) were used as predictor variables for IQ and achievement test performance. The results of multiple linear regression analysis indicated that neither the TASC nor the GSR, combined over…

Sexton, Larry C.; Lee, Mickey M. – 1989
The tetrad of subtests of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) that best predicts the WISC-R Full-Scale intelligence quotient (IQ) was determined for 1,589 Appalachian students referred for evaluation in grades 1-4, 5-8, and 9-10. The sample was divided into three groups. Students in grades 1 through 4 (n=655) were those…

Antonak, Richard F. – Educational Research Quarterly, 1988
Multivariate statistical analysis determined relationships between scores on the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test and the Stanford Achievement Test at grades 2, 4, and 6 for 272 students. The best predictor of achievement at a later grade was achievement at an earlier grade. Implications are discussed. (SLD)
