Beck, Niels C.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1983
Used multiple regression analysis to derive a short form for the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised in a sample of 300 children receiving treatment and/or evaluation at a university-affiliated community mental health center. Results yielded several four- and five-subtest predictive equations with demonstrable predictive validity.…

Lachar, David; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1984
Attempted to expand the construct validity of the profile and factor scales for the Personality Inventory for Children (PIC) by determining the relationship of these scales to empirically derived dimensions of problem behaviors in children and adolescents (N=691). Results provided substantial evidence of convergent and discriminant validity. (LLL)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Behavior Problems, Children, Elementary Secondary Education

Kazdin, Alan E.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1986
Evaluated psychometric features and correlates of the Hopelessness Scale for Children. Results indicated the scale was internally consistent, item-total score correlations and test-retest reliability were in the moderate range, and individual items discriminated high and low hopelessness children. Hopelessness correlated positively with depression…

Dollinger, Stephen J.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1984
Assessed the criterion validity of three cognitive development scales within the Personality Inventory for Children via correlations with the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised in children (N=48). Results suggested that the Inventory has validity for the task of screening children's cognitive abilities. (Author/LLL)
Descriptors: Children, Cognitive Ability, Cognitive Development, Elementary Secondary Education

Doerfler, Leonard A.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1988
Examined utility and construct validity of Children's Depression Inventory and youth version of Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression Scale. Data from 1,207 students in grades 4 through 12 revealed no significant grade, gender, or race effects for either measure. Examination of convergent and discriminate validity revealed high…

Saylor, Conway Fleming; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1984
Presents results from two studies that investigate the measurement of childhood depression through self-report and reports from others. Results were discussed in terms of the need to consider self-report in the discussion of depression with its covert components and in terms of the need for improved measurement instruments. (BH)
Descriptors: Adolescents, Children, Depression (Psychology), Elementary Secondary Education

Ridley, Stanley E.; Bayton, James A. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1983
Examined and compared the validity of Friedman's Developmental Level (DL) and Exner's Developmental Quality (DQ) as measures of cognitive development in children (N=134). Results supported the convergent and discriminant validity of both DL and DQ. The DL and DQ were most strongly related to different types of cognitive ability. (JAC)
Descriptors: Children, Cognitive Ability, Cognitive Development, Cognitive Measurement

Hale, Robert L.; Potok, Audrey A. – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1980
Although Verbal IQ of the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children predicts statistically distinct Wide Range Achievement Test Reading scores dependent on the sex of the child, the differences are of little practical importance. (Author)
Descriptors: Children, Elementary Secondary Education, Intelligence Tests, Predictor Variables

Green, Bonnie L.; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1983
Examined the usefulness of the Psychiatric Evaluation Form (PEF) scales to quantify clinical interview data for children (N=207) who were survivors of the Buffalo Creek flood. Ratings from interviews conducted six months apart and by interviewers with different purposes were significantly correlated, suggesting the PEF scales are valid. (JAC)

Lachar, David; And Others – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1982
Constructed broad-band factor scales from a factor analysis of the items that comprise the 12 consecutive Personality Inventory for Children clinical-profile scales. The six-factor solution provided sufficiently robust item clusters to develop scales reflecting Undisciplined/Poor Self-Control, Social Incompetence, Internalization/Somatic Symptoms,…

Oakland, Thomas – Journal of Consulting and Clinical Psychology, 1983
Examined the relationships of reading and math achievement with intelligence and adaptive behavior in Anglo, Black, and Mexican American children (N=345). The variance accounted for by the full model (race, sex, age, and socioeconomic status) was significant for reading and math. Variance associated with race and socioeconomic status was…
