Kavale, Kenneth A.; Forness, Steven R. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1986
The paper describes learning disabled children as disassociated learners (not actively involved in the learning process). The framework shows how it may be logically conceptualized that some children disassociate themselves from academic learning and come to be termed learning disabled. (Author/CL)

Mazer, Suzanne R.; And Others – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1983
Two experiments tested possible explanations for previous research demonstrating lower span of apprehension for learning disabled students. In experiment 1, the length of visual persistence was less for LD subjects, while in experiment 2, the rate of information pick-up was slower for LD subjects. (CL)

Smith, Corinne Roth – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1985
Whether learning disabled children's unique ability patterns and learning styles become assets or liabilities depends on the nature of the school tasks and settings. A multidimensional, interactional perspective of learning disabilities originated with the field's pioneers, whose influences extend to current theories, research, and practice.…

Meyers, Marcee J. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1983
The article reviews the controversy over the information processing model as an approach to diagnosing and remediating learning disabled students. The Slingerland Screening Tests are suggested as an alternative tool for examining information processing skills. Advantages of the test include direct application to classroom tasks. (Author/CL)

Stevenson, Lillian P. – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1980
Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised (WISC-R) protocols of 55 children (5 to 17 years old) referred for academic problems were examined using a factor-score approach in terms of clusters of subtests hypothesized to reflect functional differences in learning styles. (Author/SBH)

Hofmann, Rich – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1986
Four studies are offered from a Piagetian perspective on providing children with an optimal microcomputer environment. Guidelines stress the importance of flexibility, and a hierarchical software environment. (CL)

Owen, Jayne A.; And Others – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1976
Described is a method of individual diagnosis and remediation of learning disabled children through the use of the method of equivalence which allows the precise specification of the nature of the educational handicap and suggests remediation approaches. (DB)

Deshler, Donald D.; And Others – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1984
The first of two articles, featuring innovations and research on programs for learning disabled students in middle and high schools, reports expected goals and actual outcomes on intervention programs, identifies seven components for inclusion in a comprehensive intervention model, and focuses on the motivation, acquisition (of information), and…

Cousin, Patricia Tefft; And Others – Journal of Learning Disabilities, 1995
This article uses a sociocultural perspective of teaching and learning to synthesize previous articles in the series and speculate on future inquiry in the field of learning disabilities. It provides a model showing the expanding sociocultural contexts that frame learning and teaching. (DB)
