School-Based Mental Health Then and Now: Special Education Administrators' Perceptions Post California Assembly Bill 114, (2011)
Jacqueline Wantz-Williams
ProQuest LLC, Ed.D. Dissertation, Trident University International
The purpose of this qualitative research study was to explore special education administrators' perceptions of the associated challenges in the implementation of school-based mental health services after the abrupt change in the service delivery model due to the passage of AB 114 in July 2011 and the elimination of Assemble Bill 3632 (1984). A review of the literature presents research, historical information, and documentation of the history of school-based mental health. Six special education administrators completed an online survey composed of open-ended questions related to their perceptions of school-based mental health services post Assembly Bill 114, (2011). Additionally, four participants completed an individual follow up Zoom interview. The final chapter provides PK12 school site administrators with strategies and materials to support professional development to support special education administrators in the implementation, monitoring and administrative support for school-based mental health services.
