Because of recent global developments, cartographers have added some 20 new countries to the world's maps and globes; most additions are former republics of the now-defunct Soviet Union. The National Geographic Society and Rand McNally cannot keep up with eastern European changes. Schools are especially hard hit, and textbook supplements are unsatisfactory. Electronic maps may help.
