Using Current Population Survey data, this article examines the current activities of men of prime working age (25-54 years) who withdraw from the labor force; most cited illness, disability, or school as reasons for nonparticipation in 1976. (Editor/TA)

The study measures the significance of the health variable in a model explaining variations in labor supply. Results indicate that the disability variable substantially increases the explanatory power of the conventional model of labor supply, which otherwise overemphasizes education and family status.
