Cousins, David M.; Kulba, John W. – CEFP Journal, 1987
Energy conservation measures have led to airtight buildings and reduced levels of ventilation resulting in indoor air pollution. Five kinds of contaminants--tobacco smoke, combustion products, microorganisms, organic compounds, and radon--are described, their hazards considered, and countermeasures outlined. (MLF)
Descriptors: Air Pollution, Energy Management, Interior Space, Prevention

MacKinnon, Sharon – CEFP Journal, 1987
The city of Kitchener, Ontario, has installed a heat recovery loop in one indoor pool, all indoor swimming pools use pool covers, and two have solar heating. Energy is saved in two ice arenas by low-emissivity ceilings, and in the largest arena by a heat recovery system. (MLF)
Descriptors: Alternative Energy Sources, Cost Effectiveness, Energy Management, Foreign Countries

Pond-Brevik, Margaret – CEFP Journal, 1987
An Ontario school board found the factors necessary for the establishment of an effective decentralized energy management program to be training, a program of reinforcement, and the development of an overall attitude that encourages involvement. (MLF)

Chick, Walter S. – CEFP Journal, 1987
A voluntary program in Ontario encourages the private sector to reduce its energy consumption in commercial buildings by experimenting with innovative building operation techniques. Charts and tables illustrate the outstanding results achieved by program participants. Yearly energy management forums are convened in Toronto and Ottawa. (MLF)
Descriptors: Building Operation, Buildings, Business Responsibility, Cost Effectiveness

Drake, Thomas S. – CEFP Journal, 1986
A compendium of energy ideas and concepts, primarily concerning natural gas and electricity, that have been implemented within the Columbus (Ohio) Public School system. (MLF)
Descriptors: Depleted Resources, Elementary Secondary Education, Energy Conservation, Energy Management

Rankin, John – CEFP Journal, 1987
Programs to correct energy loss problems in Ontario school buildings were followed by resource documents used to integrate energy concepts into the curriculum. Physical plant changes, operational changes, and control policy changes contributed to an approximate 20 percent reduction in school energy use. (MLF)
Descriptors: Educational Facilities Improvement, Elementary Secondary Education, Energy Conservation, Energy Management
